Blink and you'd walk right past her. Sydney Sweeney, one of the most recognizable blondes in Hollywood, just pulled off the ultimate disguise at one of the busiest tourist spots in Los Angeles.
The Wig Heard 'Round the Pier
On Wednesday, Oct. 14, the 29-year-old Euphoria star posted a bunch of Instagram photos from a day at Santa Monica Pier, People reports. She looked nearly unrecognizable in a brunette wig. And according to her caption, it wasn't even her idea: "when ur bestie shows up and says 'here put this wig on' đŸ˜‚đŸ¥°"
That bestie is Jayde Hafner, and she was wigged up too. The photos show the pair on rides in their new hair, plus a few solo shots of Sweeney posing around the pier.

Full Tourist Mode Activated
They didn't stop at the hair. Both of them wore matching Santa Monica T-shirts. Sweeney paired hers with blue jean shorts, sneakers and sunglasses. Undercover, but make it beach casual.
According to People, the duo also:
- Got caricatures drawn
- Ate some fast food
- Hit the arcade
- Took on the pier's hang-time challenge, which Sweeney filmed and shared
Hafner posted her own carousel from the day with the caption "went undercover and played tourists for the day." Honestly? Mission accomplished.
Not Her First Time Going Dark
If brunette Syd looks a little familiar, that's because she's tried it before. People notes that Sweeney wore a black bob to the 2024 Met Gala and a dark wig to play boxer Christy Martin in the 2025 biopic Christy. Still, a red carpet or a movie role is one thing. Blending in with the crowd at the pier is a whole different level.
Why She Might Want to Lay Low
The timing is interesting. The pier day came after Sweeney's ad for the sports betting app Novig sparked outrage last month. In the clip, the Housemaid star appeared topless and said into the camera, "Just you, your takes and sports." People reports that several female athletes criticized the ad, saying they felt it set back women in sports. Fox News Entertainment also tied the incognito outing to the growing backlash over the ads.
Whether the wig was an escape plan or just a silly day with her best friend, Sweeney isn't saying. Her caption makes it sound like pure fun.
The Verdict
Blonde, brunette or hiding under a wig on a pier ride, Sydney Sweeney knows how to get everyone talking. Now the real question: who's got the caricature?
