The San Antonio Spurs are playing hardball, folks, reportedly putting up a major roadblock for New York Knicks fans hoping to catch Game 5 of the NBA Finals. If you don't live practically next door to the Frost Bank Center, forget about scoring a ticket through official channels. Talk about home-court advantage!
According to sources, including a sharp notice from Clutchpoints, the Spurs organization has thrown down the gauntlet: no tickets for anyone residing outside a 150-mile radius of San Antonio for the pivotal Game 5. This isn't just a friendly suggestion; Ticketmaster's being crystal clear that if your credit card billing address is too far afield, your purchase will be canceled faster than you can say "Knicks in 6."
Here's the full lowdown straight from Ticketmaster itself:
"Frost Bank Center is located in San Antonio, Texas. Sales to this event will be restricted to customers residing within a 150-mile radius of Frost Bank Center. Residency will be based on credit card billing address. Orders by residents outside of a 150-mile radius of Frost Bank Center will be canceled without notice and refunds given. Please note there is a 4 seat ticket limit for transactions through the venue."
So, if your plastic isn't local, your tush isn't in a seat. And even if you are local, you're capped at four tickets. They're not messing around.
Now, why the sudden lockout? Well, Game 5 tickets are apparently pretty affordable, and the Spurs are reportedly hoping to pack the house with their own cheering section, not a roaring crowd of Big Apple loyalists. You know, to create that undeniable home-team energy.
Of course, this isn't going to stop every single Knicks fan. If you've been living the San Antonio life as a New Yorker, you're still good to go. But for everyone else? Better start making friends in the 210 area code if you want a chance at catching the action live.
The timing of this move is definitely raising some eyebrows, especially with the stakes as high as they are. The New York Knicks are currently leading the series 3-1 against the San Antonio Spurs, which means Game 5 could be a deciding factor.
Mark your calendars! Game 5 of the NBA Finals is slated for Saturday, January 13th, tipping off at 8:30 PM ET. Whether the Frost Bank Center will be a sea of silver and black or if some sneaky Knicks fans find their way in remains to be seen. But one thing's for sure: the Spurs are doing everything they can to ensure a truly San Antonio experience for this crucial match-up.
