Give the woman a hand. Actually, she is one.
Heidi Klum showed up to her 25th annual Halloween party in New York on Saturday night as a giant, gruesome severed hand. It was modeled on her own left hand, and it dripped blood, the Associated Press reported.

What she wore
According to AP, Klum was unrecognizable, with only her eyes and mouth showing. Blood dripped from her mouth as she stuck out her tongue, and the wrist ended in a gory tangle of dangling ligaments and tendons. Her entourage wore blood-stained hazmat suits.
The hand is a copy of her own, AP reported, down to the long red nails, thumb ring, engagement ring and wedding band. Vogue reported that her longtime special-effects artist Mike Marino and his ProRenFX team built it from scans of her body. "It's not just any giant hand: It's my giant hand!" Klum told Vogue.
The party was at Cathédrale in Manhattan, according to Vogue and Getty photo captions.
Why a hand?
"I looked at my hand and I thought, 'Hey, I think I could fit my body in this somehow,'" Klum said, according to AP.
She told the BBC she had never seen a real person walking around as a hand. "I thought that was something new and different," she said.
Klum told Vogue the idea came to her about a year ago, before last year's Medusa look. She said Marino told her he had to focus on Medusa first.

The hard part
Klum told AP it took about five to six hours to get into the costume. "Hands down, the hardest thing is carrying it," she said. "It's quite heavy."
The BBC reported it took up to 20 people to assemble. "It took a lot of hands putting this hand together," Klum told reporters on the red carpet. "I think about 10 or 20 hands."

A little bit of Tom
Her husband, Tom Kaulitz, skipped this year's party because he's on tour, AP reported. He still made it onto the costume. The hand includes the tattoo of his name on her ring finger, plus her palm lines and veins. "A little bit of Tom is with me," Klum said, per AP.

25 years of Heidiween
The hand joins a long list of costumes. AP lists Medusa, a peacock, an 8-foot "Transformer," the werewolf from Michael Jackson's "Thriller," a clone with a crew of Klum lookalikes, and the Hindu goddess Kali. Variety adds E.T., Fiona from "Shrek," Jessica Rabbit and a butterfly. Then there's the 2022 worm that went viral, when she arrived at the end of a fishing line.
Next year she has a tough act to follow.
